Berau seeks to double production in 2011

East Kalimantan coal miner PT.Berau Coal is seeking to double its output to 20 million tonnes per annum in 2011 to tap growing local and global demand, a company official said on Monday.

Berau Coal CEO Bob Kamandanu said in a parliamentary hearing that production expansion would be achieved by opening new pit called Birang in June this year and is in the process of opening two more pits in the future.

Berau produced 10.7 million tonnes of coal in 2006 and is planning to produce 12 million tonnes this year.

Berau exports 70 percent of its production and domestically supplies coal to Suralaya power plant, Java Power?s Paiton power plant and to Tanjung Jati B. (godang)
