IDX-listed shipping company PT Berlian Laju Tanker Tbk has cancelled an earlier plan to enter coal transportation business amid the lingering downturn in the global coal market.
Company Director Kevin Wong said that Berlian this year would focus on oil, gas, and chemical transportation.
?The plan to enter the coal transportation business emerged in 2011 when coal mining business was still booming. The condition of the coal industry is currently much different,? Kevin said at the company?s public expose meeting on Thursday.
Berlian currently owns 37 chemical tankers, 4 oil tankers, and 12 gas carriers. Customers include giants such as Exxon Mobil, Shell, and Wilmar Group.
