BHP Kendilo Coal Indonesia claims highest standard in safety

Coal mining firm PT BHP Kendilo Coal Indonesia (BHP-KCI) claims that its mining operation in Petangis, East Kalimantan, has the highest standard of working safety and health condition.
BHP-KCI general manager Ken P. Ferrel even said that the "safety record of the Petangis operation is much better compared to similar operation in Australia and the U.S.."
"Since 1998 we have managed to achieve a one million working hours without accident," added production manager Abidi Djali.
Ferrel and Djali were speaking in a ceremony attended by the local administration.
Meanwhile, the local head of the ministry of labor affairs Sucipto said that BHP-KCI had received award from the Ministry of Labor Affairs for its high standard in working safety.
But he said that his office would take strong action against any company trying to conceal accident in their working complex. He said that any accident must be reported to the authority within 48 hours.(*)
