ASX-listed BHP Billiton said Wednesday that coking coal output at its Haju mine in Central Kalimantan in the first quarter of this year reached 167,000 tons, and sales volume totaled 148,000 tons.
The company said in a statement that the first shipment from the Haju mine was achieved during the January-March quarter.
BHP has previously said that production at the Haju mine has been increasing since it was started in September of last year despite the weak coal price environment. The company has set a production target of 1 million tons for this year.
The Haju mine is the first coal deposit mined at the IndoMet Coal project in Central Kalimantan, which is 70 percent owned by BHP, and 25 percent owned by IDX-listed PT Adaro Energy Tbk.
Elsewhere, BHP said in the statement that the company is conducting a ?strategic review? of the long-term future options for its IndoMet Coal project. No further details were provided.
