South Kalimantan coal miner PT Borneo Indobara (BIB), a coal unit of Sinarmas Group?s PT Golden Energy Mines, has bagged the necessary environmental impact assessment or AMDAL approval from the South Kalimantan Governor for its project to increase coal production capacity from the current 5 million tons per year to a maximum of 13 million tons a year, the parent company has said.

Beside AMDAL, BIB has also secured Environment Management Plan (RKL) and Environment Monitoring Plan (RPL) to increase production capacity to 13 million tons per year. BIB?s areas, which have been approved, are in Satui, Angsana, Sungai Loban, and Kusan Hulu sub-districts, Tanah Bumbu regency.

Last year, BIB produced 3.7 million tons of coal, lower from original target of 4 million tons due to slowdown global economy and lower coal price. This year the company is expecting to produce 5-6 million tons of coal
