Bina Teknindo plans to build power plant in North Sumatra

PT.Bina Teknindo Nusantara, a company controlled by tycoon Edwin Soeryadjaja is planning to invest US$300 million to build a 2x125-MW coal-fired power plant in North Sumatra, Bisnis Indonesia reported.

The daily quoted Soryadjaja as saying that the plant would be constructed in Medan Industrial Estate to meet electricity demand from industrial customers.

He did not give further detail. Soeryadjaja is one of the controlling shareholders of South Kalimantan coal miner PT.Adaro Indonesia.

North Sumatra is currently hit by acute electricity shortage, forcing industries to cut down working our or using expensive generators. (*)
