Power company PT Daya Kali Waktu Energy (DKWE) signed an MoU with PT Prima Layanan Nasional Enjiniring, a subisidiary of state-owned electricity company PT PLN, and the Luwu Utara Regency administration to build a biomass-based power plant in the Luwu Utara, South Sulawesi.

DKWE President Director Riza Suarga said the planned power plant will have a capacity of 10 MW with total investment of about US$25 million. The plant will use the red kaliandra (Calliandra calothyrsus) plants as feedstock.

He said that a feasibility study will soon be conducted, followed by the signing of a power purchase agreement with PLN.

Riza said that construction of the power plant would be completed in one and a half year, in the hope it could be commissioned in 2016.
