The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has received two bids in the retender for the WPSPE Bittuang geothermal prospect, which spans Tana Toraja and North Toraja in South Sulawesi.
“Registration for the Bittuang retender has closed and we received two bidders, namely Indexim and MCI Group,” a senior government official told Petromindo.com on Tuesday.
The official said there were initially three interested participants, but Sinar Mas withdrew shortly before the deadline.

“Just before the deadline, Sinar Mas stated that they would not continue. Their reason was that after re-evaluation, the field potential did not meet their criteria,” the official said.
The Bittuang geothermal block covers 12,979 hectares and is estimated by the Geological Agency to hold 46 MW of probable reserves.
The government had originally planned a state-funded drilling program at Bittuang in 2023, but the plan was canceled due to budget constraints.
