BJ Services awarded contract by Hess in Pangkah PSC

ABERDEEN-based firm BJ Tubular Services announced Tuesday it has been awarded a major contract by Hess Indonesia (Pangkah) Ltd to provide a series of rigless conductor installation operations offshore East Java.

The contract requires BJ to carry out these services on 14 wells located offshore in Block PSC of the Pangkah Development.

BJ has already commenced services on the three-year contract.

Although work on the first platform was originally scheduled to be carried out without a rig, the decision to use conventional pile driving methods was made to install the 14 x 30-inch conductors because the rig arrived at the same time that Hess completed platform construction. BJ completed operations on this particular platform in January.

Looking ahead, BJ will carry out operations on the remaining platforms without a rig, using several of its fleet of hydraulic hammers to pre-install the conductors with deviated drive shoes. The benefit of this service is that the conductors will be driven prior to the arrival of the drilling rig, thereby reducing time and expense to Hess.(alex)
