Blockade at Banpu?s Kitadin mine continues

Thai coal miner Banpu Plc. said hauling road blockade by local villagers at its East Kalimantan coal mine had entered ninth day with no clear sign of immediate resolution, a company official said.

?We?ll ask for help from national police chief in one or two days if East Kalimantan police continues to take no action to disperse the villagers,? said Banpu Indonesia senior official Leksono Poeranto late Thursday.

A group of villagers blocked Banpu?s Kitadin mine hauling road since Thursday, September 9; paralyzing the company?s mining activities. The Kertabuana villagers Kitadin to be responsible over their resettlement.

Kitadin is producing some 7,000 tons of coal per day.

Leksono said thus fat, the company had yet declare force majeure to its customers. (godang)
