Deddy Afidick, the director of PT Bangkit Bangun, said that the gas supply from the two fields could be used to support the industries which would be established in the regency. He said the availability of sufficient gas supply would attract investors to build their factories in the regency.
He said that Bangkit Bangun and PT Pupuk Sriwijaya would for example build a fertilizer plant in the regency with total investment of about Rp 5 trillion. The fertilizer plant, which will need gas supply of about 85 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd), is expected to begin operation within four years from now.
The Tiung Biru and Jambaran gas fields, which are operated by Pertamina EP and ExxonMobil, respectively, are currently under exploration stage. The two gas fields hold gas reserves of about 1.9 trillion cubic feet.
Hadi Prasetyo, the spokesman of BP Migas, said that the agency was still evaluating the plan of development (POD) of the two gas fields. ?We hope we can issue our approval by the year end,? he added. (*)
