Bomb explosion at Newmont's office

A bomb exploded Monday morning at the office of copper and gold mining company PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara in the West Nusa Tenggara's provincial capital of Mataram.
The company confirmed the explosion, saying the incident occurred at approximately 4.35 a.m. local time.
"At approximately 4.35 a.m. (local time) today what appeared to be a small explosive went off behind PT Nusa Tenggara representative office in Mataram.
"No injuries occurred. The explosion, however, caused minor damage to the outer fence area near the office parking lot," the company said in a statement.
"Our Mataram office will continue activities today while the police are investigating this incident," it added.
According the company, the incident occurred in the same location of the bomb explosion in October 2000.
Local police confirmed that no casualties resulted from the incident.
"The explosion caused no significant damage or casualties. The case is being handled by the West Nusa Tenggara provincial police," local police spokesman Tri Budi Pangastuti was quoted by DetikCom as saying.
The online news agency reported the explosion caused damage on the security guard station.
Tri Budi said the police was examining the recording result of the detector camera placed at the back yard of the office.
Police has also questioned six witnesses, including the company's security guard, as part of the investigation, Tri Budi said, adding the police had yet to ascertain the type of the explosive. (Alex)
