The Bontang mayoralty administration in East Kalimantan has set up an anti-poverty agency which would help provide a more precise data on poverty in the area, and coordinate social programs launched by various companies.

The local Kaltim Post daily said that Bontang Mayor Andi Sofyan Hasdam disclosed the plan during a seminar on poverty held at PT Badak NGL building.

Andi said that the anti-poverty agency would be supported by companies operating in Bontang including Badak, fertilizer firm PT Pupuk Kaltim, coal mining firm PT Indominco Mandiri and others.

Andi said that the level of poverty was still relatively high in the resource-rich mayoralty.(*)
