Australian explosive maker Orica Limited reported on Monday that its ammonium nitrate plant in Bontang, East Kalimantan is currently at commissioning stage and will start production in the first half of 2012.
The plant is expected to operate at full capacity in the second half of 2012.
According to the company, project cost to develop the plant will be around 10 percent lower than the initial budget of US$550 million.
Domestic demand will absorb 100 percent of the production, the company said.
The Bontang plant will have capacity to produce 300,000 tonnes of ammonium nitrate annually.
Orica has 51 percent stake in the plant. (alex)
