Wednesday, September 8 2004 - 10:50 AM WIB
State oil and gas company Pertamina confirmed on Wednesday that Bontang LNG would not be able to fulfill its commitment to its Japan and South Korean customers this year, due to falling output from East Kalimantan gas producers.
?We are seeking to delay shipments to 2005 and we have held some talks with our customers,? said Pertamina marketing director Ari Sumarno.
Ari signaled that in 2004 Bontang would face shortage of up to 42 LNG cargoes.
"So far, we?ve only got six cargoes from Oman and Qatar to make up the shortage,? he said.
A Petromindo.Com source said on Wednesday that some of the buyers had agreed to cut LNG shipments for this year, but did not provide further detail.
Bontang had been facing severe gas shortage due to operational problems in some of its gas suppliers such as Total SA and Unocal Corp.(godang)
