Borneo Indobara to double 2009 coal production

South Kalimantan coal miner PT Borneo Indobara plans to double production to 2 million tonnes in 2009.

Energy and Mining Head of Business Development Sinarmas Mochtar Suhadi told Petromindo.Com on Wednesday that the mine only produced 1 million tonnes last year due to unfavorable weather condition.

Borneo Indobara is a unit of palm oil plantation and pulp and paper conglomerate Sinarmas Group. It is a second generation PKP2B with a 30 year license to mine and market the coal up till 2036.

Mochtar said all of the mine?s production went to the Group?s pulp and paper plant in Riau, which required 4-5MTPA of coal.

Another 1 MTPA of the pulp and paper plant?s requirement is supplied from the group?s two mines which are located in Kuantan, Riau anf Muara Enim, South Sumatra with the rest supplied by a trader also owned by the group. (denny)
