The merger of three giant oil and gas firms British Petroleum (BP), Amoco and Arco has enabled the newly merged firm to supply 10 percent of Indonesia's oil demand and 65 percent of its liquid natural gas demand, the Neraca daily reported.

The paper quoted resident manager of BP-Amoco-Arco Bill Schrader as saying that the new company would speed up the development of the Tangguh LNG project in the Papua province.

Schrader was speaking to the press Tuesday evening on the sidelines of a reception on the merger of the three companies.

He said that the Tangguh gas project would maintain Indonesia's position as the largest LNG supplier in the Asia Pacific region.

He said that the Tangguh project must become the best model for Indonesia's gas project in terms of speed and cost efficiency.

The LNG field in Papua was first found by Arco. (*)
