The company said it began on-site soil investigation and engineering studies earlier in July and are now commencing work on the turnkey engineer-procure-construct-install (EPCI) project mobilizing its Batam Island fabrication yard.
Financial terms of the contract are not being disclosed.
McDermott said the full EPCI contract covers the procurement, fabrication, onshore pre-commissioning, transportation and installation, and mechanical completion for four wellhead platforms and intra-field pipelines. The pipelines will connect existing facilities with new facilities and subsea tie-ins. Additional hook-up work and modification to these existing facilities will also be required.
These Gas Development Projects represent a key part of BP West Java strategy in maintaining gas supply to the rapidly expanding marketplace. BP is looking forward to increasing innovation in the way it economically exploits remaining West Java gas reserves, to enable BP to bring on a series of new developments and several hundred billion cubic feet over the next few years, 2002 onwards. With several developments already identified, beyond those already approved and contracted, quality design and construction, delivered safely, remain key to a successful execution strategy. (*)
