BP caps leaking gas well in Pagerungan field, production drops

BP has capped one of its gas wells in Pagerungan field in East Java after it was found leaking, BP Pagerungan vice president Budiman Parhusip confirmed on Thursday.

?Because the well is located under the sea, it will take time to repair it,? Budiman told Petromindo.Com.

Pagerungan field is part of Kangean Block which is operated by BP.

A source told Petromindo.Com on Wednesday the well was capped immediately after it was found leaking on August 22.

The source added gas production from the Pagerungan field had dropped by 20 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) after the well was clogged.

Meanwhile, Pagerungan?s gas production had earlier dropped significantly due to reserve depletion. This had caused a serious gas shortage in East Java, where BP has preferential rights to supply gas. (godang)
