BP facing security problems in West Java and East Java

State oil and gas company Pertamina has asked the police to protect Anglo-American energy giant BP (Beyond Petroleum) from security problems that have been besetting its operations at the Offshore North West Java (ONWJ) block in West Java and the Kangean block in East Java.
Sources at Pertamina said the theft of equipment had been on the rise at both operating areas, which could affect operational security and force BP to stop gas production and gas supplies to state-owned electricity company PLN.
As a consequence, power supplies to several areas in West Java and East Java could be disrupted, the sources said.
Pertamina's director of production sharing contractor (PSC) management Iin Arifin Takhyan confirmed that there were security problems at both blocks and Pertamina had asked the police to protect the operating sites.
"The police has sent officers to patrol both areas," Iin told Petromindo on Thursday.
According to Pertamina data, both blocks produce 550.1 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMCFD), 53,516 barrels of condensate per day and 8,625 barrels of oil per day. (Godang)
