BP Indonesia welcomes East Java?s intention to hold a working interest in Kangean oil and gas block, but saying that any deal between the two parties must follow business principles, a senior official of the company said in Surabaya over the weekend.

?We are open to the East Java provincial administration?s intention to cooperate with us. But, any cooperation must be based on business approaches and principles,? said BP Indonesia vice president Satya W. Yudha.

Last week, East Java governor Imam Utomo met with House members and asked them to support the province?s plan to acquire a working interest in Kangean Block offshore East Java and in any other oil and gas fields in the region.

BP Indonesia currently operates Kangean Block?s Pagerungan field and has considered to develop Terang Sirasun field located in the same block. (robert)
