Upstream oil and gas regulating body BP Migas has asked the joint operators of Cepu oil and gas block to develop Jambaran gas field of the Cepu block given its huge potentials and the huge needs of gas in Java, the Investor Daily Indonesia newspaper reported in its Tuesday edition.

BP Migas head Kardaya Warnika said the it was time for Cepu's joint operators, PT Pertamina and ExxonMobil, to start drilling Jamabaran wells as he received the information that the Jambaran field has 5-7 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of gas reserves.

Kardaya has also asked both the operators to immediately confirm the figure of the total gas reserves. ?If the gas reserves are that huge, it can be sufficient to meet the demand of the industries and power plants on Java Island,? Kardaya told journalists after visiting Cepu Block in Bojonegoro in East Java recently.

Previously, ExxonMobil has estimated Jambaran's gas reserves at 1.5-1.7 TCF. This was based on its drilling at one well only. (*)
