BP Migas, upstream oil and gas regulatory agency, is optimistic that the government's target to produce 1.05 million barrels of crude oil per day next year can be achieved thanks to the operation of several new fields during the year, Koran Tempo reported Saturday.

The agency's head Kardaya Warnika said in Jakarta Friday that there would be additional production supply of about 25,000 barrels per day in 2007 from new oil fields including Seturian field off the Makassar strait, Sisi Nubi field in East Kalimantan, Ujung Pangkah in Madura and Pondok Tengah field in Bekasi.

In addition, there will be also additional production from several marginal fields including Wailawi in East Kalimantan, Kasikan, Zamrut in Riau and Sabak in Jambi, he said.

He said he was optimistic that the production would continue to increase every year with the operation of the new fields. "The production of the Pondok Tengah field in Bekasi which began operation in August is expected to continue increasing," he said, adding that the Ujung Pangkah field is also expected to begin production in early 2007, with initial production of about 10,000 barrels per day.
