Anglo-American oil firm BP Plc has ordered six patrols at a total value of US$5.4 million from state owned shipbuilding company PT PAL Indonesia to boost patrol activities at its offshore operation in the West Java sea, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Friday.

Adwin H. Suryohadiprojo, PAL?s president said BP signed the order in October and become the first oil company to order from the shipbuilding firm.

?We hope the construction of the patrol ships will be completed by June next year, and two of the ships will be delivered in January,? he was quoted as saying by the daily.

Adwin was reluctant to unveil the total value of the order but sources said it is about $900,000 for each ship, and the payment would be made through a leasing scheme.

BP's Offshore Northwest Java oil and gas fields facilities had been hit by thefts that caused the company millions of dollars in loss. (*)
