BP prepares for largest single seismic survey next year

BP is preparing to shoot the largest single seismic survey in mid-2013 on 9,000 km2 at its West Aru I and II PSCs in Arafura Sea, two deep-water blocks it secured at the end of last year.

William Lin, BP Asia Pacific Regional President, said the planned survey was a part of the London-based firm's continuous efforts to find more gas resources.

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jero Wacik expressed his support of the plan when the two met in a seminar in Bali last week.

"Reserve discoveries in new fields will be the key towards retaining or even increasing our future gas production. This will enable us to retain our position as one of key gas exporters in the region, despite ever-increasing domestic market allocation," said Wacik.

BP has 100 percent interest in both West Aru I and II PSCs, which cover 8100 km2 and 8300 km2 respectively.
