BP, Santos abandon E. Java exploration wells

Australian oil company Santos Limited announced Friday that The Titan BP 1 well in Bawean PSC offshore East Java was plugged and abandoned after reaching a total depth of 791 metres.

It intersected 49 metres of gross gas charged sandstones of the Tawun Formation containing 75 percent carbon dioxide and 25 percent natural gas. The well is located 100 kilometres northeast of Kepodang Gas Field and 160 kilometres from Surabaya.

The company also said that The Calypso BP 1 well was earlier plugged and abandoned after reaching a total depth of 832 metres. Calypso BP 1 intersected 42 metres of gross gas charged sandstones of the Prupuh Formation containing 80 percent carbon dioxide and 20 percent natural gas. Calypso BP 1 is a wildcat exploration well located approximately 85 kilometres south southwest of the Titan BP 1 well.

Santos has 45 percent working interst in Bawean PSC, while BP Plc, the block's operator, has the remaining 55 percent. (robert)
