BPH Migas, KPK strengthening supervision on downstream sector

Downstream oil and gas authority BPH Migas and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) have agreed to strengthen their cooperation on the supervision of downstream oil and gas sector.

On late Monday (09/03), both authorities held a meeting at KPK office to discuss ways on how strengthen the cooperation on the supervision of the provision and distribution of fuel as well as transportation of natural gas through gas pipelines.

The meeting was attended by the Head of BPH Migas, M. Fanshurullah Asa, and committee members of BPH and the head of KPK Firli Bahuri and Deputy Head of KPK ALexander Marwater, Lili Pantalu Siregar, Nawawi Pomolango and Nurul Gufron.

M. Fanshurullah Asa said BPH Migas and KPK have a common position, namely an independent position as they report directly to the President and that both committee members are elected by the Parliament members after going through fit and proper test.

BPH Migas has been cooperating and synergizing with the KPK, including through coordination and supervision with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in the context of handling the business sector of energy and mineral resources.

In addition, in the context of optimizing regional revenues, BPH Migas and the Governor of Sulawesi have signed an MoU and a cooperation agreement. BPH Migas also expects to sign MoUs and cooperation agreements with governors throughout Indonesia with a supervision from the KPK Team.

In addition to preventing corruption, especially in the downstream oil and gas sector, BPH Migas has included oil and gas downstream business entities to participate in the Anti-Corruption Prevention Guidelines (CEK) program initiated by the KPK.

Fanshurullah hopes that the synergy and cooperation through joint supervision that has been developed between BPH Migas and the KPK can be further enhanced.

The joint supervision includes oversight of volume verification, reconciliation of contributions and field pick tests on 135 business entities involving in fuel distribution and 35 business entities who hold commercial/transportation licenses of natural gas through pipelines.

"Business entities that are not compliant to pay dues or have an indication of improper reporting, we expects KPK to take part in monitoring and taking action if necessary," said Fanshurullah.
