Downstream oil and gas authority BPH Migas is seeking to accelerate the development of gasoline stations in remote and disadvantaged regions in cooperation with the Ministry of Villages, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration.

The ministry said in a statement issued following a meeting with BPH Migas last week that accelerating the development of the fuel stations in remote regions will also help realize the government’s one fuel policy in the country.

Minister of Villages, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Eko Putro Sandjojo said in the statement that state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina and ExxonMobil Indonesia have already started developing fuel oil stations in remote regions in cooperation with companies owned by village administrations (or BUMDES) for the distribution of non-subsidized fuel products.

BPH Migas Chief M. Fanshurullah Asa said that the cooperation with the ministry is aimed at developing a total of 330 gasoline stations in remote regions in partnership with BUMDES through 2024.

He said that currently some 1,582 remote districts in the country have yet to have fuel retailers.  With the target to develop 330 new fuel stations in the remote regions, there will still be 1,252 districts left without fuel stations in 2024.

He expected Pertamina and other private firms to participate in helping to develop more gasoline stations in remote areas to help realize the government’s one fuel policy.
