BPH Migas, the government?s agency in charge of oil and gas downstream industries, will issue "controlling cards" to monitor the sales of the highly subsidized kerosene in the market.

Agency chairman Tubagus Haryono said that the controlling cards would be given only to families or households who had the rights to buy the highly subsidized kerosene from the government.

?Those who do not possess a controlling card won?t be allowed to buy the highly subsidized kerosene,? he said, adding that poor families should carry the controlling card with them when buying the kerosene. ?They will be also allowed only to buy the kerosene in appointed retailers to ensure that the monitoring can be carried out properly,? he added.

The government has set the price for the highly subsidized kerosene at Rp 2000 per litter, or about 30 percent of the price of the kerosene sold to industries. The price gap has encouraged smuggling activities. Many irresponsible people have bought a large quantity of the highly subsidized kerosene from the public and then resell it to industries. (dino)
