Downstream oil and gas regulator BPH Migas said it could not yet start tender for new gas pipelines in the country until the government completes the revision of the 2012-2025 gas transmission and distribution pipeline master plan, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Tuesday.

The paper quoted BPH Migas Head Fanshurullah Asa as saying that it remains uncertain whether the tender could be held this year. He said that the tender can only be started after the minister of energy and mineral resources has issued the revised master plan.

He added that the revision of the master plan awaits the completion of a new regulation on division of gas distribution networks and certain commercial areas to avoid overlapping of pipeline projects in the future.

According to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, until end of last year, gas pipelines in the country totaled 14.417.18 km. The government plans to expand the pipelines to 17,558 km by 2020.(*)
