BPK to audit BPMIGAS

The Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) plans to conduct a thorough audit into the now defunct upstream oil and gas regulator BPMIGAS, a process that is expected to be completed in March 2013.
BPK member Ali Masykur Musa said that a day after the Constitutional Court ruled for the dissolution of BPMIGAS, BPK held a meeting, which decided on the need to conduct an audit into BPMIGAS.
He said that the audit is crucial as a form of accountability of government institution. ?Especially that this is linked to the oil and gas (sector) which provides revenue of Rp 360 trillion to the state,? he said Tuesday following a meeting with Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Jero Wacik.
He added that the planned audit would not be like the routine annual audit, but it would be comprehensive one, with a time span ranging from when BPMIGAS was set up in 2002 until it was disbanded on November 13, 2012.
Ali said that the audit would cover two aspects including budget and contracts with some 300 oil and gas production sharing contractors.
