Upstream oil and gas regulator body BPMIGAS has asked U.S. oil firm Chevron Corp. to explain about their plan for the Kisaran block in North Sumatra.
“ Until now Chevron has yet to explain their plan for the block, ” BPMIGAS Deputy Chairman in charge of Planning Achmad Luthfi said on Monday.
There are conflicting reports about the company's plan for the block. Achmad said the company had decided to plug and abandon the field due to unsatisfactory drilling results.
Local media recently reported that the firm is in the process of farming out part of its interest in the block.
However, the company said in an e-mail statement on April 19 that it was asking BPMIGAS to extend its exploration permit on the block for another four years.
Chevron is the block's operator with a 50 percent working interest. Pacific Oil and Gas has the remaining balance. (godang)
