BPMIGAS, BP Berau hold public consultation for Tangguh project

Upstream authority BPMIGAS and oil and gas contractor BP Berau Ltd held a public consultation for the environmental impact assessment study of the planned Tangguh LNG development project. The forum was held on Wednesday at the Fakfak Regency administration office, and was opened by Abraham Sopaheluwakan, second assistant of the administration?s regional secretary.

Abraham welcomed the public consultation forum, saying that the administration supported such activity because it would provide positive mpact on local development.

Tangguh Environmental Team Leader, at BP Berau Ltd, Dewanti Oktantina said that the objective of the public consultation was to gain inputs, suggestions and opinion from the public for the planned activities by Berau Ltd.

Dewanti added that the consultation forum would be expanded to district and village level in the Fakfak Regency and Bintuni Bay, and to the West Papua provincial level. It will be further processed at the Ministry of the Environmental Affairs.

The Tangguh LNG development project is part of the government?s overall policy to help boost oil and gas production as stated in the Presidential Instruction No 2/2012. The support of local government as well as tribal community is crucial to ensure that the project can be implemented smoothly.
