BPMIGAS calls on PSCs in Papua to be more vigilant

Upstream oil and gas regulator BPMIGAS calls on production sharing contractors (PSCs) operating in Papua -- onshore and offshore -- to be more vigilant and coordinate with local security authorities following recent shooting incidents in near Grasberg mining site operating by PT Freeport Indonesia.

At least six people have been killed in ambushes in near Freeport mines over the past one month, prompting security authorities to tighten security in the area. The latest incident was on October 21, in which three people were killed.

Gde Pradyana, division head for public relation at BPMIGAS, said his office pays special attention on PSCs operating in Papua, in particular those that operate in area near the Freeport area, such as BP which operates LNG Tangguh.

?We have reminded BP to be more vigilant and always coordinate with local security officials,? said Gde Pradyanana. (josef/godang)
