BPMIGAS drafting 4 CBM directives

Upstream Authority BPMIGAS is currently working on 4 drafts of work directives for the development (PTK) of coalbed methane (CBM) in Indonesia.
?We take the current IndoCBM event as an opportunity to inform all of CBM production sharing contractors that BPMIGAS is now drafting 4 work directives of CBM development,? said Awang Harun Satyana, Division Head for Human Resources and Exploration Analysis at BPMIGAS, when speaking at "IndoCBM 2012" Conference and Exhibition in Jakarta.
He said that his institution decided to devise the PTK because the PTK on the conventional oil and gas could not be fully applied for the development of CBM.
He cited as an example the core drilling, which could not use the big rig like those used in the conventional oil and gas. Using the big rig will damage all of the coal. ?Therefore, the CBM development will need a special equipment. Measuring the CBM reserve is also different with that of the conventional oil and gas,? he said.
He said that based on three year experiences so far in handling the CBM, BPMIGAS has come to a conclusion that it has to devise a special work directive for CBM development. ?That?s why we?ve decided to draft the four PTK for CBM,? he added.
According to him the 4 PTK will consist of PTK for exploration and production activities, how the CB contractors propose the WP&B and AFE, how the gas handling should be before POD, and on the POD itself. ?The first three are very specific to CBM, as we cannot find them in the conventional ones,? he noted.
He said that by the end of June, BPMIGAS would finalize the final drafts of the PTK. For one month after that, it will make them known to the public, particularly to the CBM companies, so that they can contribute inputs for further improvement of the final drafts.
