Indonesia's oil and gas upstream authority BPMIGAS inaugurated on Wednesday the initial oil production of the Mengoepeh field in Tebo regency, Jambi, under its new contractor Singapore-based Pearl Oil.

A press statement said that the Mengoepeh field is projected to gradually produce oil up to 4,000 barrels per day by early 2006 from the initial output of 310 bpd.

The statement said that full development of the field would commence in April 2005 by constructing production processing facility, power plant, blending facility, and crude transportation facility with a capacity of 5,000 bpd, all of which would support oil production activity for 15 years.

Pearl Oil acquired a 100 percent interest in the Mengoepeh field from ConocoPhillips in February 2004.

BPMIGAS deputy of operation Trijana Kartoatmodjo said that the oil production from the Mengoepeh field would help increase the country's oil production which currently stands at 1.078 million bpd.(*)
