Upstream authority BPMIGAS is offering the gas from Gajah Baru, which was supposed to supply PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara?s Muara Tawar power plant, to industries in Batam, according to Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Rudi Rubiandini.

The offer is being made to Batam at the a price hovering only around US$4.98 per mmbtu plus around $1 to $1.5 per mmbtu in toll fee.

?Previously we had planned to sell the gas to Krakatau Steel, but the price could reach US$9.8 per mmbtu (due to its long distance), that?s too expensive for Krakatau Steel. That?s why we?re looking for offtakers in Batam, as industries there once requested gas supply,? said Rudi.
