BPMIGAS orders Exxon to speed up Cepu gas production

Upstream oil, gas authority BPMIGAS said it has ordered Indonesian unit of US oil giant Exxon Mobil Corp., and state oil and gas company PT.Pertamina to speed up development of Cepu gas field to 2010-11 from 2014 earlier planned.

Chairman R. Priyono said that the acceleration is necessary to help fulfilling Java mid-term gas demand.

He did not give further detail.

The Exxon Mobil-Pertamina partnership, which has 45 percent interest each in the block, is currently starting up oil production at Cepu with the aim of bringing production to 165,000 BPD in 2012.

The partnership has recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement to supply 360MMCFD of gas from Cepu to state electricity firm PLN and state fertilizer firm Petrokimia Gresik. (Bernard)
