BPMIGAS pushes contractors to apply EOR
Five CBM working areas start production this year

BPMIGAS's deputy of planning Haposan Napitupulu said that contractors can only extract 30 percent of reserve held in a well using primary recovery technology. The recovery rate will increase to 60 percent if an EOR technology is used.
"The recovery rate could even reach 70 to 85 percent if the latest EOR technology is used," he said during the closing day of the Exploration and Production Forum in Bandung on Wednesday.
He said EOR technology continues to develop. One of the latest technologies is the use of surfactant, which is being applied by Chevron Pacific Indonesia at its Minas field in Riau, he said.
According to Haposan, the contribution of secondary and tertiary (EOR) recovery programs combined to the national contribution has exceeded that of the primary recovery program. The primary recovery program accounts for 47 percent of the national oil output, while the contribution of secondary and tertiary program reach 31 and 22 percent respectively.
Anditya Maulana Ibrahim, BPMIGAS's head of assessment and development division, who is also the head of the forum, said BPMIGAS has asked contrators to include all recovery programs, including EOR, in its plan of development (PoD) submitted to the agency.
"The earlier they prepare themselves, the better will be the results," he said.
Anditya projected there are five coal bed methane (CBM) working areas that are expected to start supplying gas for power plants this year.
"The output is estimated at 5.5 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) or equal to 13.75 MW of power," he said.
The five working areas are GMB Sangatta I, GMB Sekayu, GMN Tanjung Enim, GMB Barito Banjar II, dan GMB Sanga-Sanga (BPMIGAS). (kanti)
