BPMIGAS: Santos to halt Maleo field production for about 2 weeks

The upstream oil and gas regulator BPMIGAS said the Australian oil, gas firm Santos Limited will halt gas production of Maleo gas field within Sampang PSC from 25 November to 10 December 2011 to repair mobile offshore production unit (MOPU) deployed in the field.

Hadi Prasetyo, the Head of BPMIGAS for East Java, Papua and Maluku area, said during the unplanned shutdown or reparation work, the supply of gas to East Java from the field will be temporarily halted for work safety reason.

He said the work will focus on repairing one feet of the MOPU facility which was cracked. Hadi added Santos is also conducting survey for possible further reparation work on the facility.

Meanwhile Achmad Widjaya, Secretary General of Forum for Natural Gas Industry Users, said that this morning there was a stoppage of gas supply for industry from Santos? Maleo field. It is not clear whether the stoppage was related with reparation work on the MOPU facility. (bernard)
