BPMIGAS teams up with police to secure Cepu oil block

Upstream authority BPMIGAS will team up with the East Java police to secure oil and gas exploration and production facilities at the Banyu Urip field in the Cepu oil block which is operated by Mobil Cepu Limited.

Deputy for general affairs of BPMIGAS J. Widjonarko, said in Jakarta on Tuesday that the signing of cooperation agreement with the East Java police was needed to ensure that the government?s target to achieve oil production of 1.01 million barrels per day (bpd) in 2014 could be achieved.

The Cepu oil block is one of the country?s major oil and gas fields which are expected to be able to help meet the target. In 2014, the oil block is expected to be able to produce 165,000 bpd.

?Because the Cepu block is a national asset and for the national interest, we have signed cooperation agreement with the police in East Java to secure operations of the Cepu oil block so that production target could be achieved,? he added.

Mobil Cepu Ltd as the operator of the Cepu block will build a number of exploration and production facilities in order to meet the production target of 165,000 bpd of crude oil and 124 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas by 2014. The company is currently completing the production and operational facilities around 34 wells and a 95-km pipeline.

The Banyu Urip field is estimated to hold oil reserves of 450 million barrels. With the current production facilities, the oil field is able to produce 20,000 bpd. Up to now, the total production at the Banyu Urip field has reached 13 million barrels.
