BPMIGAS to reactivate old wells this year

Upstream oil, gas authority BPMIGAS said it would start pilot project to reactivate old oil wells in Pertamina?s working areas in East Java April this year.

BPMIGAS is currently drafting standard operating procedures for old wells operations and hoped to be able to start reactivation this year, Chairman R. Priyono said in BPMIGAS website.

He said that the old wells would likely be operated by cooperatives or regional government-owned companies.

According to the website, old wells are wells that were drilled before 1970, had been producing over a period of time but currently not in production.

BPMIGAS has identified PSC contractors that have old wells in their working areas including PT.Chevron Pacific Indonesia (236 wells), Kalrez Petroleum (123 wells), Pertamina EP Cepu (1,967 wells), Pertamina Lirik (37 wells) and Kalila (Bentu-Korinci Baru) (8 wells). (denny)
