BPMIGAS tries to normalize CNOOC unit operation after FSO fire

Upstream oil and gas regulator BPMIGAS is currently trying to ensure the North Business Unit of China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC) in offshore Jakarta returns to normal operation following the fire on Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) Lentera Bangsa at end September.

Division head for public relation of BPMIGAS, Gde Pradyana, told Petromindo.com that his office has deployed MT Brahmana FSO owned by Pertamina to temporarily replace storage of Lentera Bangsa FSO.

The move was aimed to recover production loss of around 20,000 barrels of oil following the fire on the Lentera Bangsa FSO, operated by CNOOC SES in the Java Sea.

?We have deployed MT Brahmana as back-up to support the storage need of North Business Unit of CNOOC in offshore Java,? said Gde Pradnyana.

He admitted that the biggest obstacle now is to recover the power supply of generator of Lentera Bangsa FSO. Gde said the generator itself is not damaged. However, the generator could not be used because the shelter to put the generator was damaged by the fire.

He said BPMIGAS and CNOOC are trying to normalize supply of power by mobilizing electricity supply from Pabelokan field.

?We?re trying to recover power supply as the generator at Lentera Bangsa FSO could not be used yet. If the electricity problem is resolved, the oil production (from CNOOC's unit) will return to normal,? said Gde. (godang).
