The Agency for Application of Technology and Research (BPPT) is in the process of transforming the Baruna Jaya I research vessel to be able to carry out undersea multi-purpose research activities to support various projects including in the upstream oil and gas sector.

Head of Sea Survey Technology Unit at BPPT, Muhammad Ilyas said in a statement last week that the Baruna Jaya I vessel is undergoing revitalization of its survey equipment starting with the so-called multibeam echosounder (MBES) deep sea for undersea survey.

?This equipment will be equipped with various supporting censors including motion sensor, sound velocity keel censor, sound velocity profiler), and MBES data acquisition and processing system,? Ilyas said, adding that the multibean echosounder equipment can reach a sea depth level of 11,000 meters.

The Baruna Jaya I vessel is expected to soon undergo sea acceptance test, or sea trial in two stages, the first leg scheduled for November 25-29, and the second leg November 30-December 3. The test will be carried out in cooperation with Denmark?s Teledyne Technologies as the provider of the MBES technology, and PT Samudera Marine Indonesia which provides the ship yard facility.
