The United Kingdom has lobbied the Chinese government to procure liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Indonesia in fulfilling the LNG needs for the country?s Guangdong province, Republika daily reported on Monday.

Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta late last week, visiting British Minister of Industry Brian Wilson said that the British government had used government-to-government approach with the Chinese government in persuading the later to buy LNG from Indonesia.

Indonesia, which is now the world?s largest LNG exporter, is competing with other LNG producers such as Australia, and the Middle East to the supply the LNG to China. British oil and gas giant BP Plc has won the tender for the contraction of a gas terminal to receive the LNG.

Indonesia plans to supply the LNG from a massive gas project Tangguh in Irian Jaya, which is currently being developed by BP in cooperation with Pertamina. (*)
