The firm is converting a double-hull vessel with capacity 150,000 dwt into a floating offshore coal terminal which will have storage capacity of 130,000 tonnes of coal, said Henrianto Kuswendi, Buana Listya?s President Director.
?It takes about 2 months for doing the design engineering and then we need another 4-6 months to complete works of converting the vessel,? Kuswendi told Petromindo.com, adding the design engineering work has been ongoing half way.
Buana Listya?s floating offshore coal terminal will be designed to have loading and unloading rate between 20,000 tonnes to 30,000 tonnes of coal per day, he added.
The offshore coal terminal will be leased to South Sumatra coal miner PT Baturona Adimulya and Baturona?s affiliates to handle their coal shipments.
Buana Listya signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Baturona Adimulya in December 2010 to lease the floating offshore coal terminal for 20 years.
?The 20-years leasing contract will be effective when the terminal starts operating next year,? Kuswendi said.
?The facility will also open to other coal miners if there is space available. There are many coal miners in Sumatra who still rely on tug and barges to transport coal,? he said.
PT Buana Listya Tama is a unit of IDX-listed shipping firm PT Berlian Laju Tanker Tbk.(denny/fitri)
