PT Bukaka Teknik Utama has reached an agreement with the administration of Paser regency in East Kalimantan to jointly build a 240 MW coal-fired power plant in the province, Kaltim Pos reported on Friday.

Paser's regent HM Ridwan Suwidi said on Thursday that the new power plant billed to be the largest in Kalimantan would cost about Rp 2.4 trillion to build. "We hope, if the plan runs as scheduled, the new power plant can begin its commercial operation in 2007," he added.

He said that the new power plant would be built in Long Kali district, which is rich in coal deposits. "This location is chosen because the district has much coal reserves which can be used as the fuel of the new power plant," he said.

According to him, all the investment funds for the power plant , including those for the licensing costs will be provided by Bukaka Teknik as the main investor in the power project. (*)
