Bukaka to file lawsuit against PLN

The Bukaka Group will file a lawsuit against state electricity firm PT PLN after the latter unilaterally terminated its contract with the former to develop a power transmission facility, according to Bukaka bos Jusuf Kalla.

Kalla, who's a former minister of industry and trade, was quoted as saying by the Tempo Interaktif online that the measure would be part of efforts to uphold the supremacy of the law in the country.

He added that a unilateral termination of contract would cause serious uncertainty in the country's business sector.

"There's no clear reason given on the termination of the contract. But there's a possibility that this (the termination) was made by people close to Gus Dur who wanted to have the project," Kalla said.

Gus Dur is the popular name of President Abdurrahman Wahid.

He added that Bukaka had suffered a financial loss of up to Rp 25 billion (US$1=Rp 8,500) because of the cancellation of the project. (*)
