Bukit Asam likely appointed by PLN to develop two PLTUs

State coal miner PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) said it will most likely be appointed to develop two coal-fired power plants (PLTU) by state utility company PT PLN, after the two projects retendered twice and only Bukit Asam submitted bid documents.

President Director of Bukit Asam, Sukrisno, said the two projects are PLTU Sumsel 8 or South Sumatera 8 (2x600 MW) and PLTU Riau (2x300 MW). Meanwhile, the PLTU South Sumatera 6 (2x300 MW) is being retendered.

?PLTU Sumsel 8 has been re-tendered twice. In the last tender, we were the only one that lodged in bid documents,? said Sukrisno. The same case also with PLTU Riau.

He said a power plant that has capacity of 2x600 MW requires coal supply of seven million tons per annum, or 210 million tons for 30 years. ?If a company?s reserves are only 100 million tonnes, it is incapable,? he said.

He said the total investment for the three power plants is estimated to reach Rp 2.35 trillion. Bukit Asam is interested to develop the three projects. (giok)
