State-owned coal mining company PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam (PT BA) said Monday it has set a production target of 11.5 million tons against last year's 10.55 million tons.
The production target was set based on transporting capacity of the railway and shipping capacity from the area and the economic condition, company production director H. Tommy Isnutomo said last weekend.
PT BA is Indonesia's third largest coal mining located in soiuthern part of Sumatra.
Tommy said PT BA has negotiated with the state-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia to handle coal transport from Tanjung Enim in South Sumatra province to the port of Tarahan in Lampung.
Transport capacity is a determinant factor in setting production target, he said, adding, PT BA could raise its production if there is no problem in transport.
He said last year, production was only 85% of the target figure of 11.5 million tons because of transport problem.
The company is seeking to expand export market to Spain and Italy and in other Asian countries, Tommy said. (*)
